Here’s another black swallowtail that makes you take a second look.
It has a lot of light blue on the wings, and 2 small orange dots.
The Spicebush flies low and in the shadows. The green of all the plants that are shading it give the blue a greenish tinge.
I wasn’t able to get a picture of the underside of the wing.
Seems weeks and weeks ago that the tiger swallowtails were in my flowers! There is ice on the birdbath this morning and only a brave viola in bloom still.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love those butterflies and trying to get pictures of them!!! That last picture is perfect!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThose are very pretty. I made a picture of a similar butterfly this spring that had blue dots running down the sides of the wings and more blue on the body. It was not colored like the swallowtail but was similar. I need a butterfly book. Helen

ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of a beautiful insect. All of our insects are gone and the only thing flying around here is snow. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful butterfly -- especially against that unusual looking plant.
