Painted Buntings…..they’re back!

Last year I saw them in early Nov. I did have one stop for a day or so but then nothing until a week ago.

These are the first pictures I was able to get. This is my new feeder in the backyard. I put a perch on it to get them used to it and to give the Doves a place to sit.021cs

A Greenie joined it for a few minutes. This little bird started using the feeder first. This is either a female or a juvenile.081cs

This feeder is in the front yard where they are used to feeding. I am trying to attract them to the backyard…I spend most of my time there.

The most I have seen together is 2 males and 5 greenies.

  1. So beautiful! We had them in early summer here in Texas, but I've not seen them in a while so I guess they headed further south.

  3. Those are beautiful birds. I have never seen one around here. I always put some seeds on the ground for the doves but you have a good idea to keep stray cats from them. Sometimes they get one around our house. Helen

  4. They are so beautiful! I live in Indiana and have never seen them. One thing we have happening is that there are robins staying here! It's been very cold and snowing. I hope they are just passing through -- we've seen them at least a couple of weeks. I get concerned and then I think that their bird wisdom guides them to the right place at the right time.

  10. Very neat! I love Painted Buntings, but they only show up rarely in my part of the world (and never in my yard). I hope you realize how very fortunate you are!

  11. You have such beautiful colorfull birds. We've had cold weather lately, 20 to 35 below, and so not much action at my feeders. They mostly have stashes where they hole up while it's cold.

  12. The kids and I think those are some of the prettiest birds! We've been enjoying watching Oregon dark-eyed juncos that have been hanging out at our place. Happy New Year!
