I have a cute little birdhouse on my rear deck that sometimes houses little Carolina Wrens. No one nested there last year so I cleaned all the old nesting material out…guess that’s what it needed….a pair have been busy all morning filling it with material of their own.
Both birds brought leaves and twigs from the edge of the woods.
Some of the leaves have a lacey look and their nests are very comfy looking.
I put together this video with several trips made by the busy pair.
Last year I posted baby Carolina Wrens as they left the nest for the first time. You can just see the nest over the top of the little house. I have that all cleaned out and waiting for another pair….this could be a busy spot this year.
That's one of the cutest birds ever! So nice that you saved it on video!! Precious!!
ReplyDeleteJust adorable—Carolina Wrens are endlessly cute—as is that little birdhouse of yours!
ReplyDeleteI love Carolina Wrens. We have some around here. They were really busy filling that nest box. Helen
ReplyDeleteLove that video Carol. Great to see the preperations, ready for new life.
ReplyDeleteI've got 2 birds visiting one of my nest boxes for the first time, this year. I'm really excited.
Great to see your charming birdhouse has some new residents moving in Carol. Similar activity going on over here. FAB.
ReplyDeleteHow cute was that video?? They're such cute little birdies, and so busy building. Tis the season . . .
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the cute little wrens building their nest. The video is great.
ReplyDeleteThey are just the cutest! It's so fun when a pair of birds chooses a place to nest in the yard where you can watch them. I've been watching a pair of Bewick wrens that seem to come and go on building a nest in a birdhouse, I can't tell if they are going to stay. I had a wren basket like yours, but the bees had taken it over so I had to take it down.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and video. I always thought they clean out the birdhouse themselves but now that I read this, I will go out and clean the ones they haven't been using.
ReplyDeleteI love that cute birdhouse too--did you make it?
Appalachian Lady- So far I've never had the Wrens clean them out..but they nest all over..coffee cans in the shop...etc We picked that little house up somewhere on the road when we were trucking...It is cute.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen one of their nests. Maybe I should put some things around for them to use.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I just adore Carolina wrens. Your little birdhouse is so cute. No wonder they like it!
ReplyDeleteThere is a pair of Carolina wrens that nest every summer in my neighbor's hanging fuschia. They come visit me every morning to get mealworms, though. My daughter was lucky enough to see both broods fledge last summer. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. (I was just a teensy bit envious.) :)
Thanks for sharing these!
How wonderful to see them nesting and record it. Always seems a privilege when birds choose our gardens as their nesting homes :D I have a wren singing every day but, as yet, I can't find it! I do hope it nests with me!
