Since everyone is showing pictures of their winter beauty…I thought I’d share also.
Here is my birdbath this morning after 2 teapots full of hot water..It kept icing over and the Robins weren't very happy about it.
I decided to chop all the ice out and put fresh water in. That was at 9 am.
Here is some of the ice…it is still there and it is after 2:30. Still not melted.
The hose that fills the watering station outside of the dog pen had a nice icicle on it. Oh….did I mention this is in central FL….we even had sleet yesterday morning.
But here is one of the bright spots of my day. One of the 3 males that are here regularly….he doesn't look too happy with the weather either.
but soooo beautiful…
They have been hitting the feeders pretty regularly. I even have a hummingbird still here. I am putting out warm feed each morning and evening.
wow..thats some colours!!! Come see my Norwegians, they look almost grey compared to your birds:)) have a lovely week
ReplyDeleteThat's really cold for central FL! Hope it doesn't kill all the citrus fruit there. Such a beautiful Painted Bunting! I wish they would come on up to see us in North MS!
ReplyDeleteThere isn't any point in trying to keep water for the birds here in Indiana, it's too cold!
ReplyDeleteI would be thrilled to have hummingbirds year round! Hopefully it will warm back up for you soon!
Wow, what a bright surprise after seeing the ice photos. I love the Painted Bunting. I am so envious that have such beautiful birds at your feeders.
ReplyDeleteIce on your birdbath is certainly not what you are used to, and the bad part is that you are not prepared for freezing weather since you don't get it very often. The good news is that you'll soon be back to normal and all your birds will be less confused. I love your "bright spot" and he does look annoyed.
ReplyDeleteHere the water freezes over in seconds - not minutes. The birds have to eat snow to get their water.
ReplyDeleteWhat a palette of colour that bird is. A real beauty. He'd brighten the dullest of days.
ReplyDeleteWOW...even cold in FL huh? Poor freezing gorgeous bird there.
ReplyDeleteWow, that bird is gorgeous. Don't blame him for scowling at all that cold and ice. Are you sure this is FL. ;-) Bless you for keeping the birds fed and watered.
ReplyDeleteAwesome PB shots! Poor little guys look puffed up from the cold, as do all the birds I've seen up in my part of Florida this weekend!
ReplyDeleteTry to stay warm down there!
Gorgeous Painted Bunting shots--the little guy looks all puffed up from the cold. It's definitely strange seeing so much ice in this part of the world!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind ice on MY birdbath, it is expected to be there, but you shouldn't be having that kind of winter wonderland at all! Your buntings need nice fleecy buntings. :o)
ReplyDeleteA Painted Bunting is something I have never seen in my backyard and probably never will. It sure is a handsome bird in your backyard with your ice.
ReplyDeleteWe complain about the cold here in Minnesota, but we're equipped to deal with it. I was sorry to see on the Nightly News about how cold it's been in the south and esp. Florida. I hope things warm up for you soon and everything gets back to normal.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of ice for central Florida. Your Painted Bunting shots are beautiful.
